Privacy Policy

UnderSelf ("we", "us") operates the UnderSelf mobile app for iOS and Android and the underself.io website. Your dreams and reflections are among the most personal data there is — this policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and the control you keep over it.

What we collect

• Account information — email, name, and optional avatar when you sign up or sign in with Google or Apple.
• Entries you create — dream and life entries: text, voice recordings, transcripts, optional attached images or location, and the AI-generated analyses of those entries.
• Purchase status — your subscription tier and its validity, provided to us by Apple or Google. Payments are processed entirely by the App Store or Google Play; we never see or store your card details.
• Optional integrations — if you connect a supported wearable (such as Oura), we store the sleep summary data you authorize, and nothing else from that account. Disconnecting stops the sync.
• Device and diagnostic data — basic crash and performance data needed to keep the app working.

Permissions we request

• Microphone — only while you record a dream, note, or message. Audio is sent to our servers for transcription and analysis. We never record in the background.
• Notifications — reminders and "your analysis is ready" alerts. You can disable them anytime in device settings.
• Photos / camera — only when you choose to attach an image to an entry.
• Location — only when you explicitly attach a location to an entry. No background tracking, ever.

Revoking a permission only disables its feature; the rest of the app keeps working.

How we use your data

• To run the features you use: transcription, AI analysis, speech playback, sync.
• To maintain reliability and fix bugs.
• We do not sell your data, show you ads, or use your entries to train third-party AI models.

Storage and processing

• Data is stored on our servers and encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
• To deliver AI features, entry content is processed by trusted providers — such as OpenAI and Anthropic for analysis, and ElevenLabs for speech — strictly to perform the feature you requested. Authentication is handled with Google/Firebase.

Your rights and controls

• View, export, or delete your entries from inside the app.
• Delete your account at any time — this permanently removes your data from our servers within 30 days.
• Email us to request a copy of all data tied to your account.

Children

UnderSelf is not intended for users under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy occasionally. Material changes are announced in-app before they take effect.
